1999 Cobra Powered GT

Looks Like a GT….Kicks ASS Like A Cobra

Quick Overview

What may look like a clean Mustang GT, pop the hood and you will be caught by surprise of a 2001 Cobra Engine for the ultimate sleeper.  Putting down nearly 320 RWHP to the ground, this GT is sure to make heads turn as you pass others by.

The Background

I bought this car new in 1999 after months of searching for this color (Ford paint code FU – “Dark Green Satin”) on a GT.  Needless to say the search was worth it.  This color is very unique and gets alot of compliments.  The color was only offered in 1998 and 1999 and IS NOT the same color as the Bullitt as some think.  Awhile back I researched to see how many GT’s were made in this color in 1999, and I found that this is 1 of only 200 made (GT, hardtop, leather, 5 speed).  Since I have had this car, I have only seen 2 other GT’s in this color in person and came across one other owner online.  It is an extremely limited color for a GT.

For the first four or five years, this car saw quite a bit of highway driving as I had a decent commute to college but to my girlfriends house as well.  Therefore, there were some miles put on it early.  That did not stop me from taking excellent care of the car inside and out.  I am a huge fan of Zaino, which I used religiously to wash the car inside and out.  Though it was a daily driver, I did quite a few bolt on modifications.  While researching more go fast goodies, I came across a deal too good to pass up on a brand new 2001 Cobra crate engine.  While I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, I bought it and put it in storage for a year or so.

After I graduated college, I felt it was time to do something unique for an already unique car.  That’s right, a friend and I swapped out the GT engine with a brand new 2001 Cobra engine.  While we definitely had some learning experiences, in the end, it all came together and makes for one killer sleeper GT.  After tuning, the car put down nearly 320 RWHP to the ground with just exhaust (catback, h pipe, headers) and the stock Cobra engine.

The new engine has a little over 20,000 miles on it, with the car having just over 117,000 miles on it.  Keep in mind this car has had less than 1,000 miles put on it in the past two years do to having a daily driver I use to drive to work.

Why Am I Selling Such a Badass Mustang?

Don’t worry I ask myself this as well.  But it really comes down to a few things, mainly the fact that I just don’t have time to enjoy it like I used to.  I am lucky if I can find time once a month to take it for a quick spin, but too often I am busy with other things.  I would love to find someone who is enthusiastic about Mustangs to pass this sleeper on to.  Ask anyone who knows me about how anal I am with this car and they can attest for how good this car is for being 10 years old with normal wear and tear.  I would expect the buyer to have the same care for it as I do.

Why You Should Buy This

There are millions of reasons why you should buy this, but some of the most notable are:

  • You can brag to your friends about having a Cobra Powered GT
  • Unique & Eye Catching Color
  • Original owner
  • Insurance for this car is still considered a GT and NOT a Cobra

So What’s Next For This Sleeper?

Some things to note about the normal wear and tear of a 10 year old vehicle is that there is a crack in the windshield which won’t cost but a couple of hundred dollars to fix should you want to.  I have had this crack for about 8 years already, but never fixed it since I was doing alot of highway driving and never knew if something else was going to hit it.  The heater core is currently bypassed and you will need to replace it should you want a working heater.  However, do you really need a heater in Texas?  Not really, that is why I just bypassed it.

While a good chunk of mods have already been done to this car, I would definitely suggest a power adder of some type.  Originally, I wanted to get a KB blower for it, but never got around to it.  It already has a set of FR500 Deep Dish Anthracite rims and the Bullitt Suspension kit.  However, I do have a Saleen S281 Heat Extractor Hood, Saleen S281 Rear Spoiler, and 2003 Cobra Front bumper which have not been installed.  Depending on the sale price, I will be more than happy to throw these in should you want to get them painted/installed.  The car currently has a sleeper look to it at the moment, but these extras could give it a more aggressive look.

A Little Bit About Me

I am Chris, and I used to be very active in various online mustang communities posting under the username “99darkgreenGT“, on sites such as Stangnet, Lonestar Stangs, United Stangs, Westside Mustangs, and eventually created and later sold the top Ford Mustang Social Networking Site, MyMustangSite.com

If you have been around long enough…you might remember seeing me active on any of the above sites.  However, life happens and after graduating from college my time on most of the sites listed above dwindled as well as my time to enjoy my Mustang.  I feel now, I am in a time of my life where it makes sense to pass the mustang on to someone else who can enjoy it.

Think This Mustang Is What You are Looking For?

I have tried to post as much detail as I could about this car and hopefully answered most of the common questions with the car.  If you are interested in talking further about buying it or have questions to something not covered here, feel free to contact me at 832 | 816 | 9687 or use this link.

I am not interested in trades or working out a loan.  Buyer must provide full payment up front for the car.  Asking price includes everything described above (inlcuding saleen hood/spoiler & cobra bumper)…anything less than the asking price and I will sell the hood/spoiler/bumper separately.

  • Series Buyers ONLY – Don’t waste my time or yours
  • Do NOT try to lowball an offer – I won’t respond
  • I am not a bank, therefore I won’t do “payment plans”
  • NO JOYRIDES

***Asking $13,999 FIRM***
